Brief Biography

Picture

I was raised in CheJu, South Korea, playing piano and studying music as earlyJej as I can remember. Being raised in a musical family my interests in music were highly encouraged and supported.

After completing my degree in music composition from the prestigious Ewha Woman’s University, Seoul, South Korea, I began working at a prominent Korean music publishing company developing and editing music arrangements.

My love for Jazz and improvisational music led me in 2002 to study at Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA as a piano performance major. I had the opportunity to study with several teachers, including Ray Santisi, Laszlo Gardoney, and Jeff Covell.

After over 10 years of living in Boston, I finally returned to Korea for a visit.  I was fortunate to perform with a Premier Traditional Korean Arts Organization.  Have a listen to the piano mixed with the unique timber and spirit filled playing of a traditional wind flute.

I was the longtime music director at the First Congregational Church in Belmont, MA.

Since, I have been working around Boston in several bands and playing a wide variety of music styles.  I continue to develop my jazz and improvisational playing and to gain valuable experience with a broad range of genres. My playing is immersed in a wide range of interests, from Jazz and Latin to Funk and Fusion. My influences are derived from the great jazz musicians of past and present, including pianists Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Brad Mehldau.
