Brief Biography

I was raised in Jeju, South Korea, playing piano and studying music as early as I can remember. Raised in a musical family, my interests in music were strongly encouraged and supported. After completing my degree in music composition from the prestigious Ewha Woman’s University, Seoul, South Korea, I began working at a prominent Korean music publishing company developing and editing music arrangements. |

My love for Jazz and improvisational music led me in 2002 to study at Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA as a piano performance major. I had the opportunity to study with several teachers, including Ray Santisi, Laszlo Gardoney, and Jeff Covell. |

After over 10 years of living in Boston, I finally returned to Korea for a visit. I was fortunate to perform with a Premier Traditional Korean Arts Organization. Have a listen to the piano mixed with the unique timbre and spirit-filled playing of a traditional wind flute.
I served as the long-time music director at First Congregational Church in Belmont, MA, and as a regular pianist at St. Anthony Shrine in downtown Boston, playing for Masses with The Arch Street Band. Additionally, I spent many years as a collaborative pianist for the Boston-based women's chorus, Voices Rising which included participating in the national chorus festivals on numerous occasions.

Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to perform as a solo pianist and with a variety of small and large ensembles throughout the Boston and New England area. I’ve performed at jazz and concert venues including Regattabar, BPC, and Mechanics Hall, as well as at universities and festivals. Working with different musicians and exploring a wide range of musical styles has helped me continue to grow as a jazz pianist and improviser.
I enjoy moving between jazz, Latin, funk, contemporary, world music, fusion, and classical music, and I love the variety and new perspectives that each style brings to my playing. I’ve had the privilege of performing with Amanda Carr, James Montgomery, and Yo-Yo Ma, among many other talented musicians.
